Godello

CasteOriginally from the slopes of the river Sil, it is the principal white grape grown in the Valdeorras, Monterrei and Ribeira Sacra regions, the third in the Ribeiro region and the fifth in the Rías Baixas region.

UvaIt emerges very early and is the first to be harvested; owing to its short ripening cycle, it is highly sensitive to late frosts. A highly productive variety, it adapts well to warm, dry slopes, and tolerates water stress well. The bunches are small and compact with fine-skinned green-coloured elliptical grapes Very complete variety which is used alone or as a complement a base for the blend.

ViñoThe wines have a yellowy golden hue, good acidity, an average alcohol content of 12.5 degrees, solid structure, a full mouthfeel, a fruity aromatic expression, and it keeps well. The single-varietel Valdeorras and Moterrei wines are important, accompanied occasionally by dona branca. In other designations of origin, godello is habitually mixed with other native varieties.
